Kim's HW4 - Travel Town

North Cascade National Park is one of my favorite places in Washington. One of the most popular trails in the park is called Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm Trail. It is a very challenging hike with a length of about 12 miles round trip and almost 4000 feet of elevation gain. The road leading to the trailhead includes 13 miles of unpaved road and is often closed due to washout. The view at the top of the trail is a beautiful 360 degrees of Doubtful Lake and Sahale Glacier. The area is also known for wildlife with frequent spotting of mountain goats, marmots, deer and even black bears. The trail is located in a very remote area with no reception, so it is recommended to check road and weather condition before heading out.

One of the most challenging hikes I’ve ever done was called Castle Traverse located in the Mount Rainier National Park. It is an unofficial trail that involves a lot of bush whacking, climbing over steep terrains and finding your own path through the mountains. The first mile of the trail leads to snow lake and is a very well-maintained section. Snow lake is a beautiful lake with crystal clear emerald water. On sunny days, the water is a perfect reflection of the mountain and trees in the background. Most hikers only do this section of the trail. The top of the hike offers incredible views of multiple alpine lakes from above as well as a view of Mount Rainier. It is not recommended to attempt this hike without proper gear and climbing experience. I was new to hiking at the time and did not take the online reviews of the trail very seriously. However, I still think that it was a very rewarding experience and that the trail has one of the best views in the park.

Blanca Lake is a popular trail located in the Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest. It is known for its unique turquoise green color caused by mineral-rich sediment from the Colombia Glacier. The trail is a challenging hike and the road leading to the trailhead is unpaved with many potholes. The trail is 7.8 miles round trip out and back with over 3300 feet of elevation. This picture of Blanca Lake was taken on a very smoky day due to wildfire in the region. However, on a clear day, the lake offers spectacular views of Glacier and Colombia Peaks across the water. Washington State Parks are home to some of the most beautiful places I have ever visited, and they will always have a special place in my heart.
