My Career

I am a mechanical engineer with over five years of work experience in design development. I am currently working as a Structural Design Engineer on wing leading/trailing edges and winglet team for Boeing 737 program. Prior to joining the airframe team, I have also worked in payloads where I was responsible for designing interior commodities including windscreen, closet, partitions, class dividers, etc. I find engineering challenging but also rewarding because there is always something new to learn and I enjoy getting to understand how things work.

Before Boeing, I’ve also worked for a smaller company called Sekisui Aerospace where I was involved in design development for a 777 passenger to freighter conversion program. As a design engineer, I get to work on the initial concept development and follow through the entire process from manufacturing to installation of the final products, supporting production as well as airline customer in troubleshooting in-service issues.

Hi Kim! My name is Mafil and I am also in IS 5320.

It’s cool to learn that you are in the aerospace field because I have family that are also or have been in the industry. In fact, my mom retired from Aim Aerospace shortly after it was bought by Sekisui. I’m curious what graduate program you’re in at Seattle University and how you find the degree you’re seeking helpful to your career. I work in higher education myself, so I am always curious to hear others perspectives from the corporate world.

Hi Mafil, I am enrolled in the mechanical engineering graduate program at SU. I’m currently finishing up my last quarter with a couple of business electives. I think the MSME program at SU is very hands-on and I got to learn many different tools that are useful in engineering analysis. I get to propose projects and do research on things that I’m interested in. My learning experience at SU has definitely helped me grow in my current role.

Must be fun being on the creative side of engineering, a lot risky too in case a design isnt taken up in the market. You also must be a patient person coz that process is very iterative and you are always dealing with feedback. I’m happy for you.
